Hey guys, I know I was going to go through Psalms, however with the election I thought this verse was very fitting.
Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
I Timothy 2:1-4 NKJV
Three things I see here:
- Paul gives thanks for all men, kings, and those in Authority. It’s easy for us to cry foul and get upset when “Our Candidate” doesn’t win, but the true test of character takes place after the election when it’s time to put our differences aside and continue forward. Are we able to give thanks for the authorities that God has put over us, even if we don’t agree with them? Or are we going to make a scene, wine and complain, and carry on about it as if we have all the answers? There is only one who has the answers and his name is J.E.S.U.S. If we can’t thank God for our authoritites we need to take a look at our heart and re-align ourselves with God.
- Lead a quiet and peaceable life in Godlines and reverence. In the face of the election many are taking to the street to influence other’s decisions, even to the point of protesting outside of rally’s and in some rare cases, damaging property. After the election, many of these people will continue in their efforts to try to make a point. While I applaud their passion, no amount of protesting or damaging things is going to change the outcome of the election. We need to live a quiet and peaceable life. This doesn’t mean we need to put ourselves in a position to be taken advantage of (although there is a time and place for that), but it does mean that we should find ways to be at peace with others, treat them with the Love that God has shown us, and be a witness for his love through the situation. If we cannot show others love in the face of adversity, then we are not representing Jesus Christ.
- God desires that ALL come to be saved. Every single person, in every single political position, in every single religious belief, and in every single sin. There are no exclusions, God wants ALL to come to him. If we’re acting like a fool because of a political election, what kind of witness are we living for Christ? How are we going to bring people to Christ if they look at us and see anger and rage over something as trivial as politics? (trivial in light of eternity) This is a great time to reach out to others, to show the Love of Christ, and make sure that they see us serving others. Our witness is so much more important than our political views, your witness will be evident in Heaven, whether you are democrat or republican will not. Lets represent Christ well, and show others God’s love so that they come to know Him.
There is so much more that could be said about this, but I hope you’re able to be encouraged by this little bit. I love you guys, I hope your day goes well.
