The only one who brings me Peace…

You will keep in perfect peace
    all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you!

Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)

The theme of peace runs loud and clear throughout the Bible. Yet, the peace we can find in God’s word is so different from what the world calls peace.

I’ve heard it said that in the world we point guns, missiles, and military forces at each other and call it “Peace”, but that’s no peace at all! That is simply control and compliance motivated by emminent destruction. The peace God wants us to experience is something completely different.

Isaiah 26 reminds us that God will keep us in peace, and this is reinforced by Philippians 4

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

Paul encourages us to pray about everything, be open with God, have dialogue with him, as our Heavenly Father and he will give us peace which surpasses understanding. Do we always feel peace? No, many times our flesh gets in the way. But we can feel this peace if we have our thoughts and hearts fixed on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A few months ago I heard a song that spoke directly to my heart. The song is “Running in Circles” by United Pursuit, and the entire premise behind it is that we are so forgetful, we are constantly distracted by the things in this world, the expectations, the “stuff”, the pulling of the worldly system. Because of all of these things, pulling us in 100 different directions, we forget that God desires for us to have peace. We forget to focus our hearts on Him. We forget that he can provide our every need.

In the midst of all the distraction, we catch these glimpses of what God has in store for us, and he reminds us that he is the only one that can bring us peace!

This song hits me hard every time I hear it, and it has been a consistent reminder for me to look towards the Lord, and allow Him to fill my heart, and give me Peace.
