Starry Night

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.

Psalms 19:1-4

This verse makes me think about our vacation at Cheyenne Mountain this summer.  I remember looking up at the stars late at night while we talked, the sky was crystal clear…(except for the nights when the smoke from the fires messed that up).

Between shooting stars, planets, eclipses, and all that other good stuff, it is so cool to look at the sky, and be in awe of the power, majesty, strength, and expanse of our God.  I’m blown away at the fact that he created all of that and yet he still had the forethought to think of us.

I also think about when we lived in KC, how we rarely saw the stars.  We’d have to go way out into the country to see them on most nights. Something about the Midwest clouds combined with the ambient light of the city washed out what we could see at night. When we moved to Colorado we were blown away at how clear the sky was, but our normal night view is nothing compared to what we saw those few nights on the mountain, we could see thousands of stars as if there were nothing else around.

Thinking about it, I see an analogy of what our lives are like in our relationship with God.  At times, we are surrounded by the world, struggling to see anything that God is doing and we lose sight of his glory and power.  Just like living in a city, where the ambient light and smog block out any sight of the beautiful night sky.  Yet other times, we are focusing on God, walking with him daily, and everything becomes crystal clear.  In these times we can see the beauty of the Lord for who he is and all that he has done, we can see the path that he has set for us, and we can sit in awe of his wonder!

It’s funny how Mom talks about wanting to live out in the country, away from the hustle bustle of the city, where we can see the stars clearly at night…That’s where we need to live in our walks with God, in a place where the things of the world can never drown out what God is doing.  How cool is that?!

You guys mean so much to me, I love you, let’s live in that clarity together!
